Location of the Queen Bérengère Museum

The Queen Bérengère Museum is located in the heart of the narrow streets of the Cité Plantagenêt, just a stone's throw from the Saint-Julien cathedral.

History of the Queen Bérengère Museum

Inaugurated in 1925 in Old Mans, the Queen Bérengère Museum has a long and tumultuous history that actually begins well before that date.

The specificities of the Queen Bérengère Museum

The Museum of Queen Bérengère offers in permanent presentation iconographic documents as well as objects of popular art related to the city of Le Mans and the department of Sarthe of the eighteenth, nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Rich and varied collections (paintings, drawings, pewter, ceramics ...) are housed in three beautiful half-timbered houses. These works accurately reproduce the atmosphere of the banks of the Sarthe and the Tanneries district before its destruction, the piercing of the Tunnel and the development of the docks.

A large painting by Jean Sorieul recounting the tragic Battle of Le Mans from December 12th to 13th 1793 as well as an interesting background of rural landscapes complete this presentation.
