History of the Mayol Stadium

Stade Mayol was built in 1919 on the initiative of singer Félix Mayol. It is the home of Rugby Club Toulon, one of the best French rugby clubs. The singer has also offered the rights of his songs to the club to pay the facilities of the stadium. Stade Mayol was inaugurated on March 28, 1920 and hosts its first football and rugby matches on the same date. It almost disappeared in 1921 following the proposal to install a velodrome approved by the city council. Although it suffered the horrors of the second war, it was rebuilt in 1947.

Stade Mayol occupies a strategic position by being close to the big provider of RCT players. It is currently undergoing renovation and extension. The expansion should be completed by 2017 and the stadium will accommodate up to 18,000 spectators instead of 15,000.
